WHAT HAPPENED WITH SWAMP THINGS CANCELATION?
There seems to be a lot of articles and people running with the rumour that Swamp Things cancelation was due to tax rebate errors, which are Incorrect.
Swamp Thing production troubles first surfaced In April when we learned production had stopped after filming 10 of Its original 13 episodes, which sources said: "so Warner Bros. could evaluate the future of Its DC Universe streaming platform," while another source close to the service said It was the result of creative decisions. Later to be canceled altogether.
The cause of the cancelation has been rumoured to be due to an accounting error by the state of North Carolina that cut the show's $40 million tax rebate. But, David E. Rhodes, the communications director for the North Carolina Department of Commerce, told Spectrum News Thursday that this Is not true.
"No, there was no error. The production company had a clear understanding of the resources available from the state under the grant program and proceeded with the production here on that basis," Rhodes said.
Regardless If there was a miscommunication by the North Carolina legislature; James Wan's 'Atomic Monster Productions' still proceded to set up production at EUE/Screen Gems Studios lot with an $85 million budget, formerly requesting $16.3 million In grant funding based on the 13-episode plan but was only eligible to receive up to $12 million.
Even with a $12 million tax rebate, this Is a hefty budget for a 13-episode TV series, whereas other DC shows such as The Flash and Arrow have a $70 million budget for 23-episodes on the CW. I would suggest these facts discredit the rumour about the tax rebate.
Besides the Information I have given, there has been no official reasoning from Warner Bros. or DC on Swamp Things cancelation. James Wann and a DC Watchtower moderator have chimed In on the situation. DC Universe moderator, AppleJack, did offer this quote:
DC Universe continues to develop new shows, new seasons, new stories, more availability, and more platforms. We’ve got a lot of exciting plans for our other shows in the works and look forward to sharing more in the coming months. While Producer, James Wann, does not know or understand why either.
That’s all the information I have to share at this time. Now that you have the goods, we will be going back through the threads and removing the false rumors and speculation that this choice means DC Universe or any of our other original series were affected.
From all the Information I have seen, It could be a mixture of things. Rumours In April heavily suggested It had creative differences and was not shaping up how they wanted. Looking at all the Information here, I would say It shut down production early due to going over budget from lack of communication and management. So they decided to cut the last three remaining episodes and retool the 10th episode as a more definitive ending Instead of a continuing series.
Conspiracy theorists constructed a narrative that AT&T upon merger with Time Warner Intervened In Swamp Things development and pulled the plug, suggesting AT&T want to roll It Into the WarnerMedia streaming service which will Include HBO and Cinemax.
All 10-episodes will continue to air, new episodes every Friday until August 2 on DC Universe.
